How Nigerians elect Cats to take care of the Rats and Mice – Malam MB

Nigeria is certainly unwell and no one will dispute that. Almost every country of the world has criteria for electing leaders while the main criterion in Nigeria is sadly money.

The Western World and the Asia always consider the reputation and the number of charities an individual has. In Nigeria, a candidate must be legitimately or illegitimately rich and a giver. Education, intellectualism, competence, integrity, assiduity and munificence are meaningless to Nigerians when it comes to electing leaders.

A Nigerian pauper with the foregoing qualities will never dream of becoming a leader. Of course the artificial poverty created by the past and incumbent leaders prompts many Nigerians to behave the way they do but that shouldn’t be a green light for paving the way for corrupt and heartless people to assume the mantle of leadership..

I have seen numerous Nigerian Commoners with my naked eye who were given N500 and pieces of noodles to vote for a candidate they have never heard about his contribution to the society. Nigerians are much happier with those who gift them motorcycles, tricycles, cars and money. The big question here is, why is it like that? When you have an uninformed society, you are bound to experience more than that. The so-called leaders know that if Nigeria was an enlightened country, this modern slavery would have been abolished many centuries ago. The Nigerian elites deliberately deny the commoners quality education in order to keep enslaving them. What is more injurious is, the Nigerian commoners don’t want to be enlightened, they see those who fearlessly and sincerely fight for them as foes and those who don’t gift them money and cars as stingy. Nigerian commoners appallingly sell their future every four years to people with kleptomania. Americans, Austrians, Britons, Chinese, Singaporeans, Vietnamese, and many others have been rejecting candidates with corruption and sexual allegations but Nigerians ebulliently and excitedly go for those convicted of corruption. We (Nigerians) are apparently proud of electing cats to take care of the rats and mice. Nigeria has been unequivocally stagnant for decades as a result of bad leadership. No society in the world progressed or progresses amid bad governance. Nigerians must take stock. Furiously reject who deny you access to quality education, and be selective in selecting your leaders. The famous Hausa poet in the 1950s, Muazu Hadeja said in one of his poems titled “Western Education” that “Immorality and poverty are endemic in an ignorant society.” It is therefore mandatory for every Nigerian to elect a leader who will guarantee them quality education. It is indeed high time Nigerians stopped their egregious culture of electing cats to take care of the rats and mice.
